[FYI] KOREAN DRAMA

Endless Love, Winter Sonata, Full House, Boys Before Flowers, My Love From The Stars and Descendant of The Sun are popular dramas who bring Korean Soap Opera go International. They have unique story lines which bring the viewers willing to watching them all day long. If it is about Korean Drama I think we are the same. Do you remember that some years ago, a TV channel in Indonesia aired many Korean Dramas in the afternoon and evening?. I remember Korean Dramas started from 1 PM until 5 PM and I always run from my school only to watching them (my school over at 1.30 PM), Oh My God! Back then we can’t watching Korean Drama streamingly because the technology not as sophisticated as now.

Why, Korean Drama so interesting? As I said before, the story lines are so unique and the total episodes are about 16 – 30 episode. You’re My Destiny have 178 Episodes, I think it’s the longest drama I’ve watched. Although it has many episodes, but the story not long-winded like Indonesian Drama who have thousands episodes. The differences of Korean Drama and Indonenesian Drama are in the production, the production of one Korean Drama need enough praparation, started from the scenario, actors, sponsorship, crew and many other. When the drama air and it has high rating, the production team will not extend the episode or if the team decide to extend, it’s no more than 5 episodes. If the drama get the low rating, the team will keep air the drama until the drama end. In Indonesia, the production team have enough preparation, but if the drama get high rating so the team will extend the episodes even until hundred or thousand episode. On the contrary, if the drama receive low rating, the team will cut the drama alhtough the drama not finish yet and suddenly the drama will disappear like ghost.

Actually, Indonesia can have the quality drama but it depends on the production team, producers, and viewer. Indonesian drama always follow the trend but if it isn’t have the strong story line and always follow what the viewers want so the drama won’t end. I think it is also because the influence of Indian Soap Opera. As we know that most of Indonesian producers are Indian and if we watch Indian drama it’s just like Indonesian drama. Have long episode and the story always long-winded. If Korean Drama can go international, popular in around the world, Indonesian Drama can do that. It depends on the creativity and effort in produce the drama.
